FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

May I designate a specific use for my gifts?

Yes. Donors may designate where they want their gifts to be used—whether to an existing ministry fund, to establish a new fund (inquire for details), or left to the board’s discretion based on current priorities.

Yes, potentially. The Foundation of St. Andrew’s is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, recognized by the IRS as a public charity (Tax ID 41-2001369), and your contribution is tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law. (Some gifts, such as from donor-advised funds or corporate matching programs, are not tax deductible.) As always, please consult a professional advisor as appropriate.

No. The Foundation of St. Andrew’s is a separate 501(c)(3) organization that works cooperatively with the church to provide long-term support to St. Andrew’s extended ministries. (One exception: If selected by donors, grants from the General Church Operations Fund support the church’s general fund expenses.)

We encourage donors to give generously to both the church, to provide immediate impact to ongoing church ministries, and to consider legacy giving through The Foundation to support extended ministries for years to come.

Current gifts should be made payable to “The Foundation of St. Andrew’s,” also noting the purpose or fund name. (Remember, The Foundation is separate from the church; therefore, do not shorten to “St. Andrew’s” or “St. Andrew’s Church.”)

Mail to: The Foundation of St. Andrew’s, 900 Stillwater Road, Mahtomedi, MN 55115.

Always be sure to designate “The Foundation of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church” as the beneficiary of your legacy gift and include The Foundation’s Tax ID (41-2001369) when possible.

We also invite you to complete a Letter of Intent, to be kept by The Foundation (and your estate planner or executor) to ensure your gift, when received, is designated according to your wishes.

The Foundation’s investments are held with Fidelity Investments and are professionally managed by Guardian Wealth Strategies according to The Foundation’s adopted investment policy. While financial and accounting services are provided by church staff, The Foundation board makes all decisions related to investment policies, expenses, and allocation of annual grants, upon advice of The Foundation’s Finance & Investments Committee.

The Foundation conducts an annual audit to ensure compliance with accounting standards and IRS regulations and files Form 990 annually, as required of a 501(c)(3) public charity.

The Foundation does not provide financial planning, investment, tax, or legal advice. Please consult a professional advisor as appropriate.
