“If I had to describe St. Andrew’s in one word, it would be ‘family.’ It’s a place where our three boys eagerly run in, ready to hug the first teacher they see. As parents, we couldn’t ask for anything more than a place where our kids feel loved, safe, and excited to go to school.” Kristin Privratsky, Preschool Parent
Our preschool is a Christian Early Childhood Educational Program. The key to establishing a Christian environment is employing teachers who have committed their lives to Jesus Christ. Teachers will assist the children in:
Brain research has emphasized the importance behind early music education. Children possess an abundance of genes and synapses that immediately make them ready for learning music. Music education at our center provides “neurological exercises” that introduce children to speech patterns, sensory motor skills, and vital movement strategies. Each week children will experience music through songs, movement, history, and musical games taught by our Music Specialist of 11 years, Miss Kathy.
Each week the Full Day Preschoolers have a small integenerational ("grandfriends") chapel service conducted by a St. Andrew's pastor or staff member. This time includes Bible stories, songs, and prayer. Half Day Preschoolers also have chapel time each week. Faith formation in our students is an integral part of our curriculum. It’s about helping young children grow in faith and deepening and strengthening their relationship with God.
For years it's been thought that teaching a foreign language to preschool-age children would be futile. However, recent studies indicate that the best time for a child to learn another language is in the first three to four years of life because the brain is malleable. Ms. Shannon, our Spanish Specialist, has been teaching Spanish in the preschools for over 25 years. Children learn by listening, seeing, imitating, and practicing in every class. Ms. Shannon introduces them to Spanish rhymes, songs, games, and counting.
We use a “Learning Center” approach to curriculum throughout the week. Our teachers design learning experiences to meet the needs of the individual child, as well as the entire group. Discovery-based exploration is nurtured in creative arts, science, cooking, blocks, table toys, large muscle, dramatic play, sensory, literature, and music. Unique to St. Andrew's preschools, is our monthly interaction with "grandfriends" from St. Andrew's Village. We play games, do crafts, sing songs, and enjoy holiday specific activities. Both young and old benefit from this time!
The Half Day Preschool program runs nine-months out of the year. Class time is from 8:45–11:30am. Children attend morning sessions from September through May. Extended Day/Lunch Bunch option is also available. **

Parents are required to tour the program before applying for enrollment. Upon acceptance into the program, families will receive a Parent Handbook and Registration Packet. Contact Deb Hruby, Preschool Administrator, Full Day Preschool, 651.762.4103.
Deb started working in the nursery at St. Andrew’s in 2001, and her love for littles led her to become the Assistant Director at the Preschools in 2009. She moved into the Preschool Administrator role in 2023(?). She simply LOVES her job at The Preschools! She loves giving new family tours, developing relationships with current families, and getting to know their kids. As she lives in the community, she gets to run into kids outside of preschool.
Deb and her husband Don have four adult kids (two boys and two girls), all married. She has four grandsons and LOVES spending time with family. They like to eat Sunday dinners, play cards, attend church, and walk around White Bear Lake together. Her favorite place to be is northern Minnesota, where her family started renting a cabin for a week in July in 1999, and that number has grown to four cabins. It’s a week of sun, fun, fishing, all kinds of sporting activities, and just hanging out. She likes to read, get together with her book club, walk, garden, and cook. Deb has enjoyed playing in the St. Andrew’s handbell choir for a couple of decades.
Shannon Freese has been teaching at the Preschools in either the full day or half day schools since 2000. She moved into the Assistant Director position for the half day Preschool in 2015. Shannon earned her B.S. in Sociology & Anthropology from UW-River Falls.
Shannon and her husband Jason live in Somerset, WI, which is where Shannon grew up. Two dogs, Juneau and Kodiak, bring lots of extra energy to the household. For low-key fun she likes to garden, read, play piano, and spend time in the mountains whenever she can. For high-octane fun, she’s done skydiving and parasailing. She tried to get on the Amazing Race, but wasn’t selected. She likes adventure!
