Bega Kwa Bega

KIPANGA PARISH, TANZANIA

Since November 2022, we’ve officially been walking shoulder-to-shoulder (“Bega Kwa Bega” in Swahili) with the people of the Kipanga Parish, our congregational partner in Iringa, Tanzania. Bega Kwa Bega is the name of the St. Paul Area Synod’s companion synod program with the Iringa Diocese in Tanzania. We continue praying for one another and look forward to our next trip there in July 2028.

To support and sustain our ongoing partnership with the Kipanga Parish, gifts made at saintandrews.org/give will help to provide scholarships, funding projects, and helping to offer scholarships for missionaries.

Activities

Here are the three ways we partner with the Kipanga Parish.

1. Prayer

St. Andrew's congregants and the people of the Kipanga Parish promise to pray for one another, as siblings in Christ.

2. Presence

We commit to being present with one another. We anticipate ways that can happen and are eager to return to Tanzania in July 2028. We hope you’ll join us!

3. Projects

This partnership commits us to supporting projects alongside the Kipanga Parish to sustain their life and ministry.

WATER FOR KIPANGA, TANZANIA

Thanks to your generosity, we reached our $50,000 project goal to provide safe drinking water to the elementary school and hospital in the Kipanga Parish. Engineers plan to build the water pump in late summer once the roads are dry enough to drive heavy vehicles and machinery to the community. Learn more about water equity issues in Tanzania and how the people of St. Andrew’s are making a difference by watching the video below.

The Journey

This has been a long journey for St. Andrew’s, and we’re so pleased to have taken this next step. Many St. Andrew’s congregants have been advocates for this partnership, and it’s a blessing to bring it to fruition.

The inaugural Bega Kwa Bega mission trip to Kipanga Parish took place in the summer of 2023. Led by Pastors Sarah Breckenridge and Amy Mihelich Smith, the St. Andrew’s group traveled throughout the region to build fellowship and friendships with fellow Lutherans and see Christ’s love alive and in action in Tanzania.

We covet your prayers for the people of the Kipanga Parish, for the people of St. Andrew’s, for the ways this relationship will continue to grow, and for how God will work in and through this partnership.

Tupo pamoja! (We are together!)
