Son Sails
This traditional Summer outing is not a true “sail” but two lovely hours spent on White Bear Lake in fellowship with other women. Perfect time to invite friends or neighbors!
This summer we will be discussing two novels by Christian authors. The morning sails will be discussing A Can of Peas by Traci DePree. The evening sails will be discussing Welcome to Fred by Brad Wittington. All welcome to join the discussion even if you haven’t read the book.
We shove off from Tally’s Dockside in White Bear and tour beautiful White Bear Lake while we enjoy meeting new friends and each other’s company along with a great discussion on one of these books.
Several copies of each book will be available at the Great Hall desk for $10, or go to amazon.com and have one delivered to your door!

A Can of Peas by Traci DePree
Weaving together the strong threads of family and friends in a pattern of grace, forgiveness, and kindness, A Can of Peas invites readers into a place where every day brings a new story and neighbors are more than just people who live down the road. Sometimes funny and often poignant, these vignettes will draw both men and women into the reassuring rhythms of life as it ought to be–and as it still is in the heart of America.
Traci DePree is the editor behind many of today’s award-winning and best-selling Christian novels. She brings over a decade of experience in Christian fiction to her writing, offering a blend of earthy Midwest wisdom with deeply rooted conviction. Can of Peas is the first in the “Lake Emily” series, followed by Dandelions in a Jelly Jar, and Aprons on a Clothesline.

Welcome to Fred by Brad Wittington
Mark Cloud has his doubts. He's not sure if he'll ever feel at home in Fred, Texas. He's not sure that he can work up the nerve to declare his love to the girl of his dreams. He's not sure he will survive another ride with Darnell Ray, Terror of the Back Roads. And he's not really sure he buys the whole God thing. Which is an uncomfortable position for the son of a Baptist preacher. This award-winning novel is a moving and hilarious tale set against the vibrant backdrop of the 1960s and rural America. It is the timeless and classic story of Everyteen in the hands of a master storyteller.
Brad Whittington was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on James Taylor's eighth birthday and Jack Kerouac's thirty-fourth birthday and is old enough to know better. He lives in Austin, Texas with The Woman. Previously he has been known to inhabit Hawaii, Ohio, South Carolina, Arizona, and Colorado, annoying people as a janitor, math teacher, field hand, computer programmer, brickyard worker, editor, resident Gentile in a Conservative synagogue, IT director, weed-cutter, and in a number of influential positions in other less notable professions.
