Sunday School Kicks Off

The weekend of Sept. 13 and 14 begins our 2008 – 2009 Sunday School Year!  Sunday School at St. Andrew’s begins at the age of 3 and continues on through 5th grade.  A Saturday evening program will be offered as well as Sunday morning classes during all worship services.

Children are treasured at St. Andrew’s.  Through Sunday School we establish a dynamic partnership with the families in the faith formation of their children.  The curriculum for the 2008 – 2009 year is designed to have all ages (preschool through 5th grade) working in the same rotation topic, but each age will have a special focus and activities that correspond to their age level.  The children will rotate workshops based on the theme using different activities to engage their interest – art, games, video, music, drama, cooking and computer.

The 5 rotations for the year will be:

1. Discover the Bible
2. Experience God
3. Become a Disciple
4. Celebrate Church, and
5. Embrace the World

In addition to the curriculum, we offer a Fall Festival, Advent Festival, Christmas Pageant and Faith Milestone programs for each grade built into the Sunday School curriculum.  New for 2008 will be web-based resources that correspond to the Sunday School Rotations!  Parents and children can use these resources to strengthen the connection of church and home faith formation.

Children age 3 – 5 (pre-K) will attend creative and engaging classes in the main Sanctuary building, while children in Kindergarten through 5th grade worship with their families during the first portion of the service and are then are ushered to their classrooms in the Great Hall and Youth and Sports Center.

Please register your children as soon as possible by filling out and returning a registration form available at any Reception Desk.

Become a Teacher or Guide!
One of the best ways to grow in your faith is to learn with your children!  Jesus lifted up children as a model of faith.  When you volunteer with Sunday School, you will find children teach you as much as they learn.  Whether you are more comfortable teaching the main lesson, leading an activity (arts, science, computer, games), or being a small group guide, we have a place for you!  We have opportunities for weekly, bi-weekly and other flexible schedules for volunteers.  You may indicate your interests and availability on a Sunday School registration form.

Volunteer Training will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, and Wednesday Sept. 10, in the Youth and Sports Center Room 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.   Please plan to attend this training!

Please contact Terri at 651-762-9175 (K – 5th grade) or Mary at 651-762-9171 (preschool) to volunteer or ask questions about Sunday School programs.

Family Potluck and Bonfire
The evening of Saturday, Sept. 27, we will host a Family Potluck and Bonfire for all Sunday School teachers, guides and their families to kick off the year and get to know each other.  More information will follow!

Sunday School at Saturday’s Gathering begins Sept. 6
Saturdays at 5 p.m. in Great Hall
Children begin in worship with their families and are dismissed by the pastor to a multi-age classroom. Scripture, memory texts and Bible stories are taught through hands-on activities. The Children's Gathering is for children age 4 through Grade 5. (There is no nursery offered at this worship hour.) Children are dismissed from worship and picked up by parents in Room 2. No pre-registration is necessary; registration occurs each Saturday evening before worship begins.
